DIY: Tutu

Tutu's are making a come back, you must have seen them! They are so cute, and so easy to make! I'm going to a baby shower on Saturday and thought I would make one as part of the gift. All you need is:
  • Tulle- I use the 25 yard spools, it take a little more than 1 spool. (You can get it in yards and cut 6" strips.)
  • Elastic
  • Scissors
  • Yard stick
  • Ribbon (optional)
Supplies.
First you will cut your elastic to size.

Age                   - Size of Elastic Waistband
0-6 months        - 10"-13"
6-12 months      - 14"-16"
12-24 months    - 16"-18"
2T-3T              - 18"-20"
4T-5T              - 20"-22"
Measure and cut elastic for waistband.

Double knot ends of elastic together - make sure it is tight and will not slip.
Age                   - Length of finished tutu

0-6 months        -8"
6-12 months      -9"
12-24 months    -11"
2T-3T              - 13"
4T-5T              - 14"
Cut tulle to length - make sure you double the length of the tutu.
I made the tutu for a 0-6 month old, so the tutu's finished length was 8", but you will see below you need the material double the length, so I cut 16" pieces.

Take your first piece of fabric and make a loop in the middle.

Pull the ends around the elastic and through the loop. Like a slip knot.

Pull the knot tight.

Continue to do this around entire elastic waistband.
Once you have covered the elastic in tulle, your tutu is complete! If you would like to add a little extra touch, cut  a piece of ribbon to length and tie a bow around the knot where you tied the elastic together.

Completed tutu!
Hope you enjoy making your next tutu - they are TOO TOO cute! =)
